10 Video Game Where You Can Gamble To Gain Ultimate Power (Or Lose Everything)
5. AI Core - Starsector
Starsector is a science-fiction strategy game in which you play as your very own space-faring faction trying to build an interstellar empire from scratch.
The game’s crucial late-stage mechanic is colonizing planets, as having access to your own resource-generating colony allows you to be self-sufficient and rack in some serious cash trading with other factions.
Unfortunately, colonizing is painstakingly slow. Even when your people settle down, it takes them a very long while to grow and expand, making their production value quite low.
That’s why some people turn to more dangerous and illegal methods of running planets. Even though it’s a complete gamble.
In Starsector, sentient AI has been outlawed as people fear its potential threat against their own kind. Still, AI cores exist, and if you procure one illegally, you can secretly install it as a governor for your colony, making its production grow beyond anything human administrators can muster.
The problem is that the more you use the AI, the more you risk the chance that someone will discover it and cause all the other factions to wage war on you.
And if you try to take out the core before you're exposed, the AI will mysteriously disappear by itself… and then expose you personally!
