10 Video Game Where You Can Gamble To Gain Ultimate Power (Or Lose Everything)
2. Awakened - Baldur's Gate 3
Since Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on the Dungeons and Dragons tabletop system, it involves a lot of dice rolling, and of course, luck.
Even the most skilled character may still roll a one and fail a check, and it just so happens that gaining the most powerful trait in the game takes three skill rolls, where failing even once will fry your character’s brain.
In the Githyanki Creche your party visits in Act 1 of the game, you get the option to try and remove the mind flayer parasite in your brain with the mysterious machine called the Zaith'isk.
When you enter the Zaith'isk, it quickly turns out that the machine is more likely to kill you than your unwanted brain squatter, but if you stay in it anyway, withstanding its effects will reward you with the Awakened trait, which lets you cast the powerful Illithid abilities as a bonus action.
Surviving the Zaith'isk requires three successful saving throws. If you fail any of them, the machine will explode, preventing you from using it again and giving you a -2 debuff on half of your stats.
The debuff can be removed by consuming tadpoles, but you will never get a chance to master your illithid powers.
