10 Video Games Better Than The Movie They're Based On
5. Friday The 13th: The Game (PS4, Xbox One, Switch)
Despite their popularity, the Friday The 13th films were never renowned for their artistic merit. Franchise creator Sean Cunningham took great inspiration (like most slasher flicks) from John Carpenter's Halloween.
The films ultimately weren't centred on suspenseful thrills so much as the increasingly brutal nature of Jason Voorhees' murders. The masked machete maestro is an iconic part of horror cinema that's mostly fallen by the wayside in recent years.
2017's video game adaptation of Camp Crystal Lake hijinks successfully resuscitated the undead favourite's popularity. Comprised of 8 players, the game plays out as a survival horror in which 7 players are potential victims with the last lucky player getting to be Jason. With a timer counting down, Jason must remove all 7 camp counsellors from the equation before time runs out.
The game hosts plenty of homages to the old films including Harry Manfredini's famous soundtrack and characters such as Tommy Jarvis. The use of the Unreal Engine 4 provides an imaginative twist on the multiplayer deathmatches more commonly associated with military-focused games.
A fun game to throw on when entertaining a group of friends.
