The much-anticipated but ultimately disappointing Phantom Menace infuriated many die hard fans who'd been waiting almost 20 years to see it.

Despite its flaws, Jar Jar Binks' debut feature is bolstered by 2 great action scenes: Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's climactic lightsabre showdown with Darth Maul and young Anakin's pod race. The latter inspired this high speed thrill ride that quickly conquered the world of gaming at the time.

Boasting an impressively diverse line-up of levels and customisable features, it remains one of the finest entries in Star Wars' long and storied video games compendium to this day.

LucasArts took the pod race and transformed it into a colourful and competitive romp to rival other major sci-fi racing games such as WipeOut and F-Zero. Bringing Star Wars to life better than any game before it, Racer took the world by storm the way the film was supposed to.

More impressive still, it eventually entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling sci-fi racing game of all time with worldwide sales exceeding 3.12 million.

A long-demanded remaster arrived last year, ensuring this classic's popularity remains alive and well for the next generation.
