10 Video Games Better Than The Movie They're Based On

6. Robocop 3 (Amiga)

friday 13th video game
Amiga

A franchise-killing low point for the cult favourite series, this PG-rated threequel came out lacking in everything viewers had once liked: the brutal violence, the satirical storylines and the thoughtful questions on AI. It was all gone and replaced with a film that sent Frank Miller packing from Hollywood for more than a decade.

The dreadful nature of Robocop 3 makes the exceptional quality of its game tie-in all the more glaring. For Amiga players, Robocop 3 was an entertainment extravaganza blending no nonsense shoot-em-up thrills, hard-hitting vehicular missions, hand-to-hand combat and jetpack madness into one ahead of its time masterpiece.

The game further set itself apart with the immersive Movie Adventure mode which successfully placed gamers in the head of the titular character. It was as close to an interactive movie as gaming had ever been in 1993. Even things in the movie that didn't work whatsoever (looking at you robot ninjas) work like a charm here.

The polar opposite of its film, Robocop 3 was met by universal praise with critics and players alike citing it as the new peak of movie tie-in gaming.
