10 Video Games BROKEN By Their AI

5. Fire Emblem

Without a shadow of a doubt, strategy games are some of the most difficult to program enemy AI for. Not only do you have to prepare for the player's every possible move, but you have to do so with who knows how many different scenarios, while making sure they all function perfectly.

Now, while Fire Emblem has some small issues, the vast majority of these are easy to ignore. However, one issue - the fan-named 'Matthis Syndrome' - can provide some pretty game breaking moments.

Matthis Syndrome is the nickname given to scenario in which characters do things they never would in the storyline in the battle mode. This is most iconically shown in the aforementioned Matthis being willing to attack and kill his sister in the battles, despite the fact that this is entirely out of character for him.

The Fire Emblem series is by far the most addictive strategy series you could get into. But, if you do, you have to do so with the knowledge that the battles are almost entirely separate to the storyline in many regards - and that fratricide is more common than you might think.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
