10 Video Games Delayed To "Get It Right" (But Still Got It Wrong)
4. Perfect Dark Zero
Perfect Dark Zero is another classic example of a game being re-purposed for multiple platforms, only to end up being a catastrophic disaster.
The development began back in 2000 - when it was intended to be released on the GameCube - however Microsoft entered the fray. It purchased Rare which led to development changing focus to make the game for the Xbox. Soon after, rumours about the Xbox 360 prompted another shift and so Perfect Dark Zero was re-purposed again.
The delay was intended to ensure the title would be in its best state and playable on the best console available at the time of its release. But, the development schedule became too rushed to guarantee it as a launch title. This was the undoing of Perfect Dark Zero, since it is abundantly clear just how swiftly the final stages were completed.
Like most games delayed to address the multitude of bugs and errors found in the project, many of them were never fixed. Perfect Dark Zero could have been a fantastic game, but it was ultimately tarnished by a pressed schedule that led to sub-par mechanics and many unbalanced aspects, particularly with how much damage enemies could absorb.
