10 Video Games Everyone Wanted (But Hated)
3. Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)
The fastest hedgehog alive has been loved the world over since his first appearance in 1991, but a drought of decent, main console content throughout the first half of the noughties put him on the back foot. It makes sense then that 2006's Sonic The Hedgehog, which promised a return to form, was high on everyone's to-do list.
As is often the case with legacy titles, there was a big buzz around this one from its announcement onwards, with demos and pre-release content looking promising. Such extensive pre-release hype ensured that day one sales would be through the roof, no matter what the critics had to say.
Released on Xbox 360 and PS3, it was panned from day one, yet somehow, people continued to buy it in their droves. The control system proved difficult to handle and navigate from the outset, but this was just the beginning.
As players spent more time with the game, they came to rue its extensive loading times, silly, often cringeworthy story and numerous glitches. Broadly speaking, the game looked and sounded good but this alone wasn't worth either the wait or the price of the disc.
As such, it has maintained its title as the worst Sonic game of all in the years since. Long may it reign.
