10 Video Games To Finally Be Excited About In 2014

3. Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation takes place fifteen years after the events of the first film, and puts you into the shoes of Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen. Working closely with 20th Century Fox, developers The Creative Assembly is looking to create a distant cousin to the Alien films as we know them. Using Fox's vast archives, the developers have brilliantly taken a new step into uncharted waters for the franchise by telling this lost chapter. As Amanda, players are searching for Ellen, who went missing after the events of Alien. On-board the space station Sevastopol, Amanda doesn't yet realize that it is infested with a savage Xenomorph who is ready to devour her. Adhering much closer to the scary tone of Ridley Scott's first Alien film, as opposed to the action-heavy sequels, Alien: Isolation turns the player into the hunted. The Xenomorph stalks you by sight, sound and smell. It's quick, intelligent and deadly, forcing the player to use stealth in order to survive. Visually, the game strives to match up to the 1970's aesthetic presented in the film. All the technology is supremely retro, from the computers to the VHS tapes. The Alien franchise has a somewhat infamous history with games, and some very controversial releases. Alien: Isolation looks like it will change all that. Suit up, and get your pre-order ready when Alien: Isolation launches in October of this year.
