10 Video Games MUCH Better Than We Thought They'd Be

3. The Swapper

The Swapper is a sleeper hit that plenty of people haven’t played because of its unusual gameplay mechanics, graphics, and structure. Which is a terrible shame because it’s a fascinating little puzzle game with genuinely interesting commentary on the human condition, and the implications of technology and cloning.

The game’s writer would go on to write The Talos Principle and Subnautica but in his early days the only work he’d done prior was the story for FTL: Faster than Light which would also be right at home on this list.

While most of those other works gained mainstream appeal, The Swapper slipped under the radar leading many to assume it might not be quite as impressive, but poorer timing absolutely doesn’t equal poorer quality. The unique challenges, impactful twists, and clever puzzles keep you engaged in the experience from start to finish and those who gave this one a shot could almost certainly attest to that.
