While the StarCraft franchise has its fans, developers Blizzard really missed out on an excellent opportunity to expand it even further when they cancelled their planned StarCraft: Ghost title.

Originally announced in March of 2006, StarCraft: Ghost moved away from the franchises' roots of real-time strategy and instead which was set to be a third person shooter. It was to have a heavy emphasis on stealth and gunplay, with weapons and guns ranging from an EMP device to assault rifles, flamethrowers and sniper rifles.

Blizzard envisioned that the main character, Nova, would be incredibly agile. Able to easily climb ledges, move quickly and navigate via ziplines, Nova could also access 'psionic' powers which would gave her almost superhuman abilities.

The title was also to include a multiplayer element which would put a greater emphasis on allowing the player to see a different view of classic battles from the real-time strategy series.

Following 2006's initial reveal, information on Ghost was increasingly sporadic. It was one of the titles deemed to be vapourware; it was only in 2014 that Blizzard's president, Mike Morhaime actually admitted that Ghost was no more.
