Princess Peach is extremely frustrating. She gets herself into trouble, plays a damsel in distress and at the end reveals herself to have ridiculous amounts of power. Why does this character even need Mario and Luigi's help to begin with? Why does she tolerate Bowser? Does she just feel bad for him and think it's a good way to get the two brothers out of the house? Is she just a tease who wants attention? Does she feel obligated to conform to gender expectations? Or is she just not very smart? Most of these interpretations are offensive towards women and unfortunately most of these interpretations are suggested by Peach's behavior. Not to mention the fact that she is really rich and wastes her money building castles that evil turtles end up taking over. It could easily seem like she's a tyrant and the people are revolting against her wasteful spending. Either way she is a really bad leader. Despite being a big Yoshi fan I can't help but feel extremely disappointed with Nintendo's illustration of a women in power through Peach, it's just confusing and backwards. It also represents a major theme among games -- having a female lead be solely a damsel in distress. Which leads us to number 4....
