10 Video Games That Just Got Delayed
8. Gothic 1 Remake
The remake of Piranha Bytes' cult classic 2001 RPG Gothic was formally announced by publisher THQ Nordic in early 2020, after a prototype demo was released and rapturously received by fans a few months prior.
As of 2023, developer Alkimia Interactive stated that 2024 was a "realistic release timeline," though by the end of 2024 they stated their belief that it would most likely release during 2025.
But the studio has just provided another update, confirming that Gothic 1 Remake will miss 2025 altogether and is now expected to release in Q1 2026.
Considering this is an impressively comprehensive remake project for a small studio, with all prior dialogue being re-recorded in multiple languages and cut content from the original release even being reintegrated, the delay isn't terribly surprising.
It takes as long as it takes, but in the very least the demos released so far suggest that development is coming along well.
Here's hoping the fully-formed end product lives up to the much-loved original.
