10 Video Games That Make You Feel Like A Genius

1. Portal

Portal game
Valve

At its core, Portal couldn't be more straightforward. Using your portal gun, you can create an orange portal and a blue portal. If you go into one, you come out of the other. By using this device, you need to figure out how to get out of each test chamber.

And with that simple premise, Valve managed to craft one of the most celebrated games of all time. Although Portal was praised for its clever writing and witty humour, it's the the vortex-shooting gun that take centre stage. Because of this weapon's infinite potential, you feel compelled to experiment with it endlessly.

Bizarrely, it's while you're faffing around with this tool when you usually make an astonishing discovery. The first time you redirect a bot's bullets through a portal, your jaw drops. When you discover your velocity is affected by how fast you travel through a wormhole, it blows your mind.

The learning curve is flawless, since you never feel clueless or spoon-fed. You're always given the right amount of instructions, so you feel like you and you alone are responsible for completing each test.

Once you beat Portal, you may worry it has little replayability, now you know how to beat each chamber. But nothing could be further from the truth. You can play Portal for years, and still discover neat little tricks, that make you think, "Wait, you can do THAT?"
