Cod Blops, as it was affectionately known, was one of the peaks around the Call Of Duty Golden Era, following on from Modern Warfare, World At War and Modern Warfare 2. While the decision to scrap single player from Black Ops 4 was met with some controversy, it appears they've clawed their way out of the mini slump typified by the lacklustre Ghosts.

Before all that though, Call Of Duty was a bankable game year on year, and 2010 was no different. It didn't tear up trees in the way some later games on this list did, but when considering the best 2010 had to offer, this release simply cannot be left out of the conversation. Within six weeks, it made $1 billion in sales.

It's Call Of Duty, so there's the usual range of maps and weapons all with a rugged, realistic grit. Added to the party was a crossbow, Dragon's Breath incendiary shotgun shells and ballistic knives. The standout part of Blops though was zombie mode, which inexplicably saw JFK, Richard Nixon, Fidel Castro and Robert McNamara all defending the Pentagon from invading hoardes.
