10 Video Games That Punish You For Being Smart

2. Blair Witch Curses You... For Trying To Break The Curse

Blair Witch is not one of Bloober Team's best games, however its final hour definitely lives up to its movie namesake. As you finally step foot in the franchise's iconic haunted house and try once and for all to escape the Blair Witch's clutches, this horror game transforms into something truly chilling.

That great final impression is cemented by a devilish twist as well. See, for the most part Blair Witch is relatively light on gameplay mechanics, however there are Blair Witch effigies and totems that you can find and destroy around the environment. You can also kill the various monsters the Blair Witch sends after you with your flashlight.

Now, you might assume that killing these enemies and crushing these idols would loosen her influence on the player character. This is certainly the implication, and smart players might think they're on the way to some kind of secret good ending should they seek out all of these collectibles.

However, that's where the game's greatest trick comes into play, as smashing these totems and killing enemies actually turns your character more mad and is exactly what the Blair Witch wants. It's only by killing zero enemies and avoiding these collectibles that you get the 'good' ending.
