4. Never Tell Javik What Happened - Mass Effect 3

Javik the Promethean is both the worst and the best companion in Mass Effect 3. A lot of fans hate him for being a condescending prick towards younger species, and a lot of people love him because he's a condescending prick in general.

Since he's the last of his kind, Javik's personal storyline revolves around bearing the existential cross of the extinction of his species. In fact, the realization can even kill him if you're not careful.

Towards the end of the story, Javik presents you with an Echo Shard containing his own memories of his species' civilization. He says that he had deliberately removed them, as the pain of reliving the long-gone glory was too much for him, but you can convince him to confront the truth anyway.

Unfortunately, although finding out the truth sounds like the right thing to do, in reality, the memories will spiral Javik into suicidal depression, and in the epilogue, he will take his own life.

On the other hand, if you let Javik continue lying to himself and denying the past, he moves over his grief and goes on to become a famous and beloved writer.

Some memories just aren't worth reliving.
