In 2001 Japanese video game developer Camelot Software Planning gave birth to one of the most immersive RPGs of its time, Golden Sun. Camelot already boasted a monopoly on Japanese RPG games with the first of its kind, Beyond the Beyond, releasing on PS1 a few years prior.

Golden Sun was considered to have a huge development time for a Gameboy Advance game, not seeing the light of day for a whopping 18 months! The game itself was so big it was ultimately split into two installments, Golden Sun and Golden Sun The Lost Age due to the size not being able to fit on a single game cartridge.

I picked up the original cartridge at a car boot sale a few years after release and still remember the countless hours I spent squinting at my Gameboy Micro, button mashing through combat scenes. After misbehaving I also remember my dad confiscating my Gameboy to find out a few days later that all of my characters had doubled in combat level... suspicious.

The original game sold over a million units worldwide and is still viewed as an underrated classic - If you have a taste for retro turn-based combat, cryptic puzzles and *PLENTY* of dialogue then bust out that old dusty Gameboy SP.
