10 Video Games That Time Forgot (But We Haven’t)

5. Maximo: Ghosts to Glory - Playstation 2 - 2002

Maximo game
Capcom

“There’s no chillaxo when you play Maximo”.

This hack and slash platformer follows Maximo, a brave king who returns to his castle to find his kingdom is falling. His once trusted advisor, Achilles has forced Queen Sophia to marry him and he strikes our protagonist down and kills him. Now floating in the underworld, The grim reaper offers Maximo his life back in exchange for stopping Achilles' plans to fuel his undead army.

This game is like Dark Souls before games started kicking your butt - but you’re going to like it. A gem from the golden age of Capcom - you control Maximo through spooky graveyards inhabited by zombies and skeletons collecting coins on the way that can be exchanged for armor - Really cool Centurion armor. More modern gamers may be turned off by the game's high difficulty and relatively simple design, but this is credit to developers originally developing the game for Nintendo 64.

This game has aged like a fine wine as my memories take me back to a time where I was yet to get past the first 30 minutes of gameplay. As a grown up I’m taken on a nostalgia filled trip where difficulty is not sacrificed in the process.
