10 Video Games That Tried To Exploit Nostalgia (And Failed)

5. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

Star Wars Battlefront
RoboModo

Tony Hawk may have long retired from professional skateboarding but his legacy holds strong. Working with Activision across a wide range of licenced titles, the Pro Skater series is fondly remembered across the PS1 and PS2 for their gameplay, precise controls and enjoyable soundtracks.

Following a series of less-successful ventures such as Proving Ground and RIDE, Activision’s licence was set to expire in 2015. Looking to squeeze out one more title before this happened, they proceeded to develop Pro Skater 5, returning to the core gameplay not seen since Proving Ground.

Development only lasted several months, whereas most games usually take several years, and released unfinished, seeing the rest of the game released via patches.

Filled with bugs, glitches and a complete lack of structure, it’s a title that should never have begun development and holds the dubious distinction of Activision’s most shameless release yet.
