10 Video Games That Tried To Exploit Nostalgia (And Failed)
4. Warcraft III: Reforged
Blizzard Entertainment is no stranger to controversy in recent times. Once revered amongst its fanbase, they’ve come under major criticism from fans in the last few years after their Diablo Immortal reveal, Hearthstone’s Blitzchung incident and most recently, Warcraft III: Reforged.
Launched back in 2002 as Warcraft III: Reigns of Chaos, it was the last traditional Warcraft game before Blizzard moved to World of Warcraft and is often considered amongst the best RTS games ever made.
So when Blizzard confirmed at Blizzcon 2018 that a remastered edition was on it’s way, expectations were understandably high. But upon its release this January, fans were vocally upset.
Promising modern HD visuals, remastered maps and remodelled characters, it soon became clear that this wasn’t delivered and updates were minimal.
This was made worse by its £25 price point, the fact Blizzard merged the PC clients with the original version and initial refusal to provide refunds.
It’s another highly public failure from a company that could once do no wrong, leaving fans worried about what'll happen next.
