10 Video Games That Were ROBBED At The Game Awards 2018
5. Celeste
For many a gamer, Celeste was their favourite game of 2018. At least it was, until God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 came out. Of course, Celeste is still many peoples' favourite, but it's difficult for a side-scrolling indie title to stand toe-to-toe with two generation-defining titles.
Celeste was a gorgeous platformer that saw you climb a treacherous mountain in order to reach the summit. It sounds pretty basic, but Celeste so perfectly ties its story with gameplay and music that it sucks you in and doesn't let go. It's a journey of self-discovery and self-help, all while being brutally hard - much like life itself. METAPHORS!
Celeste was pegged all year to be a game of the year contender and, low and behold, it was indeed nominated for the award. It was a nice nod to the game, but everyone knew it was a two-horse race between Red Dead and God of War. While Celeste couldn't have justifiably won that award, it did win the Games For Impact and Best Independent Game.
All in all, a successful showing but perhaps not befitting of the game itself.
