Though Sony came out as the undisputed victor in the sixth generation of consoles, significantly outselling their nearest competition, Microsoft had established a foothold in the gaming market with their Xbox, and it was due in no small part to the success of the Halo series.

So when the PS3 was released, Sony attempted to get an exclusive title that could rival Bungie's legendary franchise. Accompanied by a massive PR campaign, Ubisoft's Haze was hailed as a potential Halo-killer, with KoRn releasing an eponymous single to promote the title.

However, such lofty expectations meant that Haze needed to be a home-run on release to come anywhere near to living up to the hype, and it just wasn't to be. Upon release, the game was derided by critics and gamers alike who disliked the bland gameplay, unoriginal story, and variety of glitches.

Sandwiched between the releases of the universally acclaimed Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, Haze completely failed to stand up to its competition and was ultimately disappointing.
