10 Video Games That Were Too Good To Be True

6. Playstation Home

Fallout 76
Sony

Playstation Home was hailed as one of the most ambitious concepts ever conceived in the years prior to its official release in 2008, with the package at E3 2007, in particular, claiming that the platform would revolutionise the gaming industry.

Inspired by the immense popularity at the time of titles such as Second Life, Home promised to offer players a hub to both socialise with friends from around the world with a live translation feature, and enjoy a variety of gaming experiences.

Throughout its time online Home actually became pretty profitable for Sony, as the consistently decreasing userbase splashed out on expensive in-game items, with much of the game's locations ultimately being shops and outlets for the player to spend their hard-earned in.

However, throughout its lifespan, Home never came close to fulfilling its potential, mainly due to the fact that the technology at the time was just not capable of supporting the original ambitions for the game. Home never managed to move past its Beta stage and was finally shut down in 2015.
