3. Shenmue III
The wait for Shenmue III is almost over but it could never live up to the hype. Similarly to Half-Life 3, there is simply too much expectation surrounding Shenmue III, and that means it could only ever disappoint.
Spinning out of the weirdest Kickstarter ever, Shenmue III seemed like a dream come true. Then, as is painfully predictable with Kickstarter campaigns, the title was delayed from August 2017, to late 2018. Then it was delayed again until August 2019. That's two year long delays. In case you can't tell, that's not a good sign.
Fans of the series will wait as long as it takes to get the end of the Shenmue story, but it's difficult for newcomers to jump in. A HD remaster of the first and second game were cancelled because they "would not meet the standards that Shenmue fans expect and deserve."
That's an odd statement and one that ensures few will ever jump into III on a whim. Perhaps Shenmue III will be the game the fans have waited almost two decades to get their hands on, but more likely it will be a relic of a bygone era that satisfies no-one.
