10 Video Games That Wasted Their Ludicrous Budgets On Terrible Levels
9. Final Fantasy VII Temple Of The Ancients
The term epic is overused nowadays (and therefore, massively devalued) but Final Fantasy VII deserves to be renowned as an epic game. The story deals with a lot of complex issues (identity is a massive theme throughout the game) and building and shaping your characters provides a decent challenge, thanks to the variety of material available in-game. Honestly, there are very few sections of the game that could be described as bad (Cloud's retelling of the Nibelheim Incident very nearly topped this) but Temple Of The Ancients is a tough one to defend. The first area of the Temple is designed as a labyrinth (so it's expectedly confusing to navigate) but it's the Clock puzzle near the end of the area that will drive you crazy. Getting all of the treasure in every room here requires you to repeatedly enter and leave and go through the same charade to get the hands to move it's so tedious. You finally end up with a pretty tough boss for your party's current levels (Demons Gate deals a lot of damage and you'll have to top your characters' health up constantly) and you also lose a certain character for the remainder of the game at the conclusion of the Temple. Thankfully, it also ends up being destroyed and impossible to return to, so it's not all bad.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
