In the case of legendary fighting game Soul Edge, each of the playable fighters has two possible endings to unlock - one good, one bad.
And where fan favourite character Siegfried is concerned, his tragic ending sees him finally lay his hands on the legendary titular weapon, only for the evil forces inside of the sword to take control of him and transform him into a malevolent presence.
As for the good ending? Siegfried makes the better-advised decision to resist Soul Edge's allure and destroy the sword.
Despite the tendency for fighting games to play fast and loose with canon between entries, sequel Soulcalibur actually picked up Siegfried's tragic ending and ran with it, by revealing that the evil force he had become was actually the Azure Knight known as Nightmare, who would quickly become the series' main antagonist.
