10 Video Games With Zero Expectations (That Blew EVERYONE Away)

5. Astro's Playroom

Hi-Fi Rush
Sony Japan

It's always sensible not to expect much from pack-in games shipped with consoles for free, because let's be honest - if they were that good, they would've sold them separately.

But occasionally console makers don't try to squeeze every last penny out of players they possibly can, evidenced by the PS5 launching with platformer Astro's Playroom pre-installed.

Now, anyone who played Japan Studio's previous game starring Sony's adorable mascot - Astro Bot Rescue Mission VR - knew the team's pedigree, but given that Astro's Playroom was merely intended to show off the PS5's nifty DualSense controller, how good could it possibly be?

Though the game lasts only around two hours, what a short but sweet experience it is - a visually stunning, brilliantly designed love letter to all things PlayStation that absolutely could've been sold at an indie game price.

For all the launch games PS5 owners had to play, Astro's Playroom was one of the very best, and one consistently hailed as a pleasant surprise by both critics and players alike.
