10 Video Games You Didn’t Realise Gave Away Their Major Twists
3. Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption ends in the way many westerns do: in tragedy. After killing his old gang members on the orders of the U.S. government, John Marston returns home to live out the rest of his days in peace with his family. Unfortunately, the government returns to tie up loose ends by killing him, and John is buried by his wife and son on a hill overlooking their farm.
Attentive gamers should have seen this ending coming, though, as it is heavily foreshadowed throughout the game by a mysterious man dressed in black. This so-called 'Strange Man' appears three times and speaks to John with vague and cryptic statements. During his final appearance, he remarks that where hes standing is a fine spot - the spot where John ends up being buried.
If you werent certain John was a dead man walking already, this moment confirms it, in a vague and mysterious way of course. Its a way of saying Johns fate is predetermined; that he is destined to die as punishment for his sins. The game never explains who the Strange Man is, leaving you to interpret his presence however you see fit.
