10 Video Games You Didn't Realise Were Secretly Sequels
1. Control - Alan Wake
Alan Wake 2 is often referred to as a long-awaited sequel, which is mostly accurate, given it was released a whole 13 years after its predecessor. However, the funny thing is that, technically, fans already had a follow-up by then, as 2019s Control was also an Alan Wake sequel.
Control placed you in the shoes of Jesse Faden, the recently established head of the Federal Bureau of Control, as she explored the Oldest House - the organization's HQ. Despite being presented as a new IP from Remedy Entertainment, it was filled with scattered references to Bright Falls, the setting of 2010s Alan Wake, heavily linking the two.
If it weren't clear enough already, the AWE DLC would make it even clearer, as it brought Alan Wake directly into the game and continued his story. Alan Wake 2, naturally, kept the ball rolling, heavily featuring the FBC and Control characters such as Jesse and Ahti the Janitor. Hell, it even alluded to another Remedy property in Quantum Break.
Control is where the Remedy Connected Universe really started to show, and it took many by surprise.
