10 Video Games You Need To Play BLIND

6. Prey (2017)

Slay the Princess
Bethesda

The only specific thing we'll say about 2017's Prey is that no, it's not a sequel to 2006's cult classic sci-fi FPS of the same name, but rather an entirely standalone experience operating within a superficially similar wheelhouse.

Bethesda and developer Arkane Austin certainly did a fine job of keeping players in the dark about what Prey really is until it came out, for though the broad sci-fi shenanigans seem pretty typical for the genre, there's a lot more percolating under the surface.

It's a game which continually surprises the player with unexpected revelations and gameplay shifts, and while its influences will quickly become clear to fans of the genre, Arkane also do plenty to distinguish their project.

Sadly Bethesda's wilfully vague marketing campaign didn't help the game commercially at all, as it massively underperformed at retail, even if time has certainly been kind to it and it's held up today as a major achievement for its genre.
