10 Ways Activision Should Make Call Of Duty 2018
8. Keep Switching Perspectives Between Infantry And Vehicles
While entries in the Call of Duty series have plonked players in vehicles before, these sequences have almost entirely been on rails, tightly scripted set-pieces rather than true gameplay segments.
COD: WW2 on the other hand, put players in control of a wide array of backup fire-support, resulting in intense Spitfire dogfights and Uncharted-inspired jeep chases.
Previous titles attempted similar shifts in perspective, however the latest release put the focus on player agency, fleshing out these sections to the point where they were often more enjoyable than the regular infantry combat.
The franchise has shied away from properly implementing vehicles for the past few years (perhaps to avoid even more comparisons to Battlefield), but it's obvious that shifting perspectives between boots on the group and additional fire-support can result in dynamic missions, and going forward Activision would do well to realise the potential of these segments.
