10 Ways Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Be Infinitely Better Than GTA V
7. Memorable Side-Characters
A good story feels hollow without strong characters to fill it. Thankfully, RDR has plenty of engaging characters, with the grave digger Seth and smooth-talking Abraham Reyes being two standouts. Throw in characters like the old gunman, Landon Ricketts, and the snake oil merchant, Nigel Dickens, and you've got a small sample of the many personalities present throughout the campaign.
These memorable characters are what made RDR so special, giving each story mission a feeling of purpose and entertainment, regardless of whether the mission is particularly action-packed. You know the characters are great when you knowingly take part in their cow-herding missions just so that they can be happy.
The story was certainly heightened due to these three-dimensional characters, thus in turn making the story in-depth and interesting throughout the campaign. GTA V, due to its satirical nature, have purposely one-dimensional side characters that serve to represent certain aspects of society. It's because of this less-serious tone that the side characters aren't as fleshed out, which is why RDR's follow a different path.
A sequel to RDR would hopefully continue this trend, as morally gray characters stand out the most, and RDR had plenty of them.
