10 Ways Sony Could Ruin The PS5
8. Focusing On Accessories Over Selling The Console
Similar to the previous entry, there's also the worry that Sony might be focusing too much on additional accessories for the PS5 rather than making sure the console itself is as good as it can be.
With the PlayStation 4, the company went back to basics. While its rival was attempting to pitch their console as an all-in-one entertainment system, Sony stuck with the messaging that their machine was a games console first and foremost, adopting a "for the players" slogan that worked wonders.
With the PS5 it seems as though they're branching out once again. They're only patents for now, but the Playstation Assistant looks to be a core feature of the PS5, an Alexa-type system that will track your in-game progress and provide assistance via voice controls and a screen-within-a-screen display.
On top of that is 3D hologram tech that's been patented by the company which, I kid you not, will beam a 3D image of a game directly into your eyeballs.
Of course, there's no guarantee these features will ever see the light of day, but it's clear Playstation is all in on accessories that could split the playerbase.
