10 Ways Sony Could Ruin The PS5
9. Too Many Gimmicks Developers Won't Use
When it comes to new Sony consoles, one of the biggest problems is that the features the company sees as being revolutionary end up being mere gimmicks that barely get used outside of first-party titles.
The PS3 had SixAxis and the PS4 had the controller's in-built speaker, touchpad and light bar. While all of these features were cool in their own right, they hardly came to define the play experience for the consoles as a whole.
The worry is that Sony might be repeating the same mistake with the PS5. In the recent Wired blowout, Mark Cerny spent most of the time discussing the additions to the next iteration of the Dualshock, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
Again, these sound awesome, but history has shown that features like this are often ignored by third-party developers, so all that R&D could end up being for naught, and better focused on the core hardware.
