One of the defining titles for the Nintendo DS, Nintendogs holds a very special place in the hearts and minds of many gamers the world over. Its simple gameplay and large roster of precious pups to preen, pamper, and play with resonated in a way that few other games had done before.

For all of its cutesy charms however, Nintendogs was an accurate depiction of pet ownership, with players needing to tend to all of their dogs needs on a regular basis to keep them happy and healthy.

Should you fail in your duties, you'd face the terrible consequences.

This is still a Nintendo game after all and booting up the game to find a virtual dog corpse would be a little too extreme for the core audience, but if you were a terrible owner your dog would simply abandon you.

That's right, you'd boot up the game only to be greeted with a message telling you they'd ran away. In an instant, all of your shortcomings and failures hit you like a ton of bricks and you must deal with it in whatever way you can.

And all because you wanted to go to the pub, for shame.
