10 Ways You're Worse At Video Games Than You Think

9. Smart Steering

Is there a better way of dismantling family and friendship ties than a racing game? Titles like Mario Kart and all its subpar competitors have this strange ability to present themselves as light-hearted party games, whilst also being able to cause some of the most infuriating experiences imaginable.

Being able to pride yourself in being the best at a driving game like Mario Kart is therefore quite a proud boast.

But, as these series have moved on, so have the number of things going on in the background helping players out in the more clutch moments. Whilst classic titles like the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES are filled with features actively working against the player, more and more releases have come jam-packed with tools to help them out at every twist and turn.

Smart Steering is one of the biggest ones: a subtle control feature that will ensure a player will always hold a consistent racing line and not fall off any ledges or into any obstacles. And the feature generally works quite well too, with players being forgiven for not realising it's in play, but it certainly has a serious role to play for these games' formulas these days.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
