Like its predecessor, Super Smash. Bros. Melee contains a number of classic Nintendo characters that could be unlocked, including Mewtwo, Ganondorf, and Falco. The beloved beat 'em up also contained some hidden characters that were on nobody's radar, like Marth, Roy, and Dr. Mario.

However, Melee's obscurest secret character has to be Mr. Game & Watch. During the early '80s, the sentient silhouette regularly featured on Nintendo's electronic games, which were known as the Game & Watch series. These games were so popular, Mr. Game & Watch was Nintendo's mascot during this time.

But when Super Mario took the world by storm, the little stick figure vanished into obscurity, making Melee his first appearance in a prominent game in almost two decades.

Even though Mr. Game & Watch's return in Melee could've been a novelty, he's actually a superb fighter. He has a small hitbox, deceptively long range, merciless counters, and devastating Smash attacks. And if the janky sprite hits his opponent with the Judge move at full power, he can KO them instantly.

He mightn't look like much but Mr. Game & Watch is absolutely worth unlocking. The former Nintendo mascot is such a powerhouse, he's returned in every entry in the franchise since.
