Notable Launch Games: Beauty and the Beast Dark Castle Defender of the Crown Battleship Although this list is largely based on the pure quality of a system's launch games, as we saw with the Playstation 3 and Xbox One there are circumstances surrounding the release of a console that can have a negative effect on the quality of games. Of course, no matter how you slice it, the Phillips CD-i's launch was an utter embarrassment. When you release a console that costs $700 in 1991 money, it had better come with games so glorious that they literally make your face melt off and must be stored in a government warehouse for further research by top men. Instead, the Phillips CD-i released with Battleship, Beauty and The Beast, Connect Four and other games so memorable that most of them don't even have a page on Wikipedia. If you're wondering right now how exactly the manufacturer's of this abomination slept at night knowing they were selling a console that forced these games upon unsuspecting children, you'll be happy to know that the hardly anyone bought the thing in the first place. That's shocking considering that I can't think of any other possible way to play Battleship and Connect Four for less than $700.
