Notable Launch Games: Battle Arena Toshiden Ridge Racer Rayman Street Fighter: The Movie Considering that Sony had never released a home video game console prior to the launch of the PlayStation in 1995, and that they were basing the console's technology on the relatively young concept of CD-ROM, you would think that they would use their launch lineup as an opportunity to show everyone they mean business. Instead... well, I hope you liked Ridge Racer. Outside of that racing classic, new PlayStation owners only had iffy ports like NBA Jam Tournament Edition and straight up awful games like Street Fighter: The Movie to work with. The only other game that really aimed to show that the PlayStation was capable of something unique was Battle Arena Toshiden, but that game ultimately suffered from trying to do too much with the new technology and came across as an inferior Virtua Fighter. Of course, this wouldn't be the last time that Sony would fail to assemble an impressive launch line-up as you soon shall see.
