10 Worst Things That Nintendo Have Done
2. Going After Content Creators' Revenue
Being the devil's advocate, Nintendo's brand control is purely to preserve their characters, games, and assets, which are viewed as highly valuable commodities.
Having said that, Nintendo can be just as tough when it comes to innocent content creators. Since 2013, there've been cases of Let's Play videos surrounding Nintendo being deleted and accounts being suspended unless the creators have permission from the company.
After agreeing to these terms, the creators were still limited with what games they could discuss or what criticisms they could make. Even if a YouTuber or Twitch streamer's platform centres around Pokémon or Metroid, their hands are tied what they can and cannot talk about.
Just to add salt to the wounds, users can follow these unreasonable guidelines and not earn a penny, since Nintendo can seize the advertising revenue on any video involving their property. The content creator is at a disadvantage if they challenge this claim, since sites are sure to favour the billion-dollar conglomerate, leaving the user at risk of receiving a strike or a suspension.
The money earned may be chump-change to Nintendo but it's a living wage for content creators.
