10 Worst Things That Nintendo Have Done

3. Mistreating Rare Time and Time Again

Rareware, which was co-founded by Chris and Tim Stamper, is responsible for creating some of the greatest games ever, including the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, and Perfect Dark.

Serving as a second-party developer for Nintendo, you'd think the company would greatly appreciate Rare. However, there are many examples of Nintendo taking the British developers for granted.

Despite the fact GoldenEye 007 was revolutionary, it barely saw the light of day since Nintendo stopped funding for three months and tried to can the project.

When Rare worked on a new IP called Dinosaur Planet, Nintendo repurposed it into a Starfox spin-off so it would be more marketable. Making this decision in the eleventh hour resulted in the game feeling like two different titles squished into one, which was jarring.

Nintendo may have mismanaged Rare a little, but there was no doubt they were a winning formula when they worked together. As a result, the Stampers were certain Nintendo would eventually purchase Rare.

But when their contract expired, Nintendo cut all ties, allowing Microsoft to swoop in and buy Rare. Sadly, Rare failed to recapture the former glory while working for Microsoft, causing the company to slowly dissolve.

If Nintendo bought Rare when they had the chance, the beloved developers could still be going strong and we could be playing Banjo-Kazooie 7 right now.
