For years, Xbox and PlayStation felt like rival kingdoms - loyal fans, locked ecosystems, and exclusive games used as weapons in the never-ending console war. But 2024 and 2025 have seen something remarkable: Microsoft is breaking down those walls.

Faced with ballooning development costs, debt from studio buyouts, and a rollercoaster economy, Xbox is shifting strategy. Forced out of focusing solely on hardware, it’s doubling down on software reach, embracing platforms like PC, Nintendo Switch, and yes, even PlayStation. Smaller titles like Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded were the first to test the waters. Now, iconically green IP exclusives such as Forza and soon, Gears of War, are making the move.

This change-up isn’t just goodwill - it’s business. More platforms mean more players, more revenue, and better returns. Xbox is last in the console race, but has a strong chance at becoming first in the third-party publisher position. And let’s be honest: PlayStation gamers aren’t exactly complaining.

With that in mind, here are 10 Xbox games that MUST make the transition over, from hidden gems that deserve a second life to iconic classics that would sell like hotcakes.

10. Halo series

Why we want it: Halo is the Xbox franchise, with Master Chief being the console equivalent of what that moustached Italian plumber is to Nintendo. It's the reason some players bought an Xbox in the first place.

From iconic multiplayer to Master Chief’s legendary campaign, its absence on PlayStation has been felt for over two decades. For Sony fans who grew up hearing tales of Blood Gulch, the Halo series would be the ultimate "must-have" from the green team's stable.

How likely is it? It would’ve once been unthinkable, but with Xbox pivoting from hardware to ecosystem, Gears and Forza warming up the crowd feels like the pre-show. The writing is on the wall, and it's a question of when, instead of if. The only mystery element we're left pondering is what format it will take?

Master Chief Collection seems like the natural fit, but persistent rumors have already swirled about a remastered Combat Evolved hitting Sony’s console first, with the rest to follow piece-meal. If it's dollars they're after, the approach makes the most sense.

Watch this space then for gamers' brains imploding while playing as Master Chief with a DualShock.
