100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil

87. RE7's Cut Area

The development of Resident Evil VII represented many great challenges for Capcom, being that it was not only their first mainline Resident Evil game in first-person, but it was the tip of the spear for modern day virtual reality and the first game on a new engine.

Alpha footage for the game shows the team getting to grips with how to develop with all of these things taken into account, including early tests on Unity before the RE Engine was finalised. Live-action test footage even exists of the famous dining scene, acted out by the dev team to get a feel for how it would be seen from the player's perspective.

A brief window into a cut area of the Baker Estate can also be found, which is that of a cornfield. From the footage it appears that this may have been where Zoe's caravan was originally placed but, for whatever reason, it was removed from the game.

Whilst RE7's location was pretty much perfect how it was, the idea of being chased through the fields by a mad, rambling Jack Baker does seem like it could've been horrifying (in a good way).
