There's a lot of weird and wonderful unlocks in Resident Evil but it's not been a franchise that has ever had much in the way of cheats in it. However, there is one tucked away in the Director's Cut rerelease of the original game.

On the title screen, start by selecting the Arrange Mode of the game - which is essentially a remixed version of the Spencer Mansion with items in different locations - and then moving down to Advanced difficulty. Then, simply hold the right d-pad button and eventually the text will turn green to signify that double item mode is enabled. The cheat doubles pick-ups in the game, meaning you'll get twice the ammo and ink ribbons as you explore the mansion.

It's a surprising addition, but considering it only works on the hardest difficulty it's not exactly like it breaks the game.
