100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil

47. Germany Draws The Short Straw

Due to stringent censorship rules, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - like many other games in the series - is heavily censored in Germany.

Zombie bodies disappear upon death, blood is always coloured grey and there are no headshot animations. Improtantly however, the Operation: Mad Jackal Mercenaries game is impossible to beat. The game gives players a timer to reach the end which can be increased by scoring chains of kills. However, in the German version, you are not awarded any score for kills of "human" enemies - only the likes of zombie dogs and Drain Deimos. This makes it very hard to grind for the minigame's rewards, such as the infinite rocket launcher for the main game.

This is all due to the country's laws on "glorifying violence" and, as such, Resident Evil 4 got the same treatment. Worse even, as the German version omitted the Mercenaries and Assignment Ada modes entirely. Ergo, no Chicago Typewriter unlock.

And who wants to live in a world where Leon can't wield a tommy gun?
