100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil
34. We Do It!
Whilst the reveal trailer for Resident Evil 2's 2019 remake was pretty exciting stuff, we already knew it was happening for several years thanks to a pretty low-key video posted by Capcom in August of 2015. Producer Yoshiaki Hirobayashi stood in front of a screen with a conceptual logo and excitedly proclaimed in awkward English: "we do it!" - answering the decade plus of fan demand.
"We do it" became a bit of a heart-warming meme amongst excited fans, and so Capcom paid tribute to this in the final game. In the waiting room on the first floor of the RPD, there's a plaque that commemorates the work of the staff that ends with the Hirobayashi-san's phrase.
There's a few more nods elsewhere in the game's textures. The Raccoon City streets bring back the Arukas store sign from the original RE2 (which is the name of Street Fighter's Sakura backwards) and there's even a flyer advertising a photographer advertising the services of Frank East, an elseworlds version of Dead Rising's protagonist Frank West.
Has he covered wars? Enquiring minds must know.
