100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil

Operation: Raccoon City could've been something, with it's return to the famous locations and it's promise of "what if" scenarios.

It certainly didn't help that the game launched with only half it's campaign on the disc. The U.S.S. Delta Team were fun enough and they were a big part of the marketing, but most people haven't even played half of the game because the US Government Special Agents Echo Six weren't ready in time for the shipping date.

Of this ragtag group, they're about as interesting as you'd expect (which is to say, very mildly). However, there is one particular chap who gets a special shout-out. Crispin Jettingham is one of Resident Evil's few openly gay characters. Of course, it never comes up in the game but there's a clever reference to it staring you in the face the entire time.

According to writer Adam Bullied, in an interview with Polygon, Crispin's call-sign of "Dee Ay" isn't just two random letters and is, in fact, a reference to the US military's once famous approach to sexuality in their ranks: "don't ask, don't tell".

Dee Ay: Don't Ask.

It's a really good way to show representation without awkwardly bringing it up in writing, that's for sure.
