If you ask comic book fan who is the Avengers' greatest enemy, you'll get a couple of answers. Ultron. Loki. Galactus. Thanos. But if you ask any gamer, there is only one answer - Square Enix. Even though Marvel's Avengers looked like it was in safe hands since it was developed by the same company behind Final Fantasy, the game was rife with glitches as soon as it launched.

But with the benefit of hindsight, did Marvel's Avengers deserve so much hate?

Hell yes. The action role-playing brawler wasn't just sloppy or imprecise. It was chaotic. Characters would fall through the ground and get stuck in looping animations so often, the game was borderline unplayable.

Thankfully, Marvel's Avengers received multiple patches which fixed (without a shred of exaggeration) over a thousand bugs.

Although this fact proves this Square Enix title wasn't ready for its initial launch, it doesn't change the fact most of title's most blatant problems have been resolved. The platform specifics were fixed, matchmaking was fine-tuned, and the XP boost, which required real money, was deservingly discarded.

Marvel's Avengers is still not perfect by any means, but it's lightyears ahead of what it once was.
