Nintendo's bonafide classic Punch Out!! series and system-selling boxing minigame bundled with Wii Sports had a baby. It's called Arms, and it's the hit Switch game that was entirely glossed over during the Big N's long-awaited Switch reveal event back in January.

Link's later-than-scheduled return with Breath of the Wild was the headline act, obviously, used to showcase the hybrid console, Arms was simply meant as a diversion to tide Switch owners over until other recognized icons made their return, vis-à-vis, Super Mario Odyssey. Or so we thought.

As Mario Kart and Splatoon are to racing games and shooters respectively, Arms is the same deal for fighters. That is, Nintendo saw the opportunity to inject its magic into another genre and acted on it. Arms doesn't follow ordinary fighting game conventions, and that's why it's so special. See for yourselves.
